Europress offers the planet intelligent waste management
Intelligent waste management from Europress for the world
In this series of articles, we present the experts developing the Europress SMART system and share their thoughts on how intelligent waste management changes the conditions of a closed-loop economy.
Europress offers intelligent waste management solutions for all your needs, from individual local businesses to international networks. In addition to Finland, our activities cover international markets through our subsidiaries and network of partners.
Our sales team consists of the industry’s best professionals, including many waste management professionals with many years of experience. Marco Aaltio has worked for Europress in various development and management positions for 25 years, which gives him a unique opportunity to look at the development of the waste management industry for decades.
“More waste is being sorted these days, and that’s good. I see this as part of the long-term development of the industry, and it will continue because it has a huge impact on the environment,” says Aaltio.
Increasing the amount of sorting has given developers challenging tasks. In Finland and many other European countries, the sorting of different waste fractions has been common for a long time, but the process continues to improve with the addition of new recyclable fractions. In recent years, plastic harvesting has become commonplace, and separation of textiles from dry waste sent to incineration is becoming more common. Landfills are no longer preferred as the objective is to use all wastes either as secondary feedstock or as fuel for energy production. It is important that the value of the material is maintained throughout the processing chain.
“With such a wide range of waste fractions, recycling systems require more and more. But how do you make it cost-effective? Smart solutions give the answer”, – confirms Aaltio, who is currently responsible at Europress for the development of the business of our international networks.

Since the sorting and processing chain involves many different stages and participants, care must be taken to ensure that the value of the sorted material is not lost, but retained for the users of the recycled material. If that does not happen, then recycling simply does not make sense. This requires seamless cooperation between the parties and the effective functioning of each chain link. The role of Europress in all this is to optimize the equipment and services used to collect and transport the various waste fractions.
“Europress is constantly improving its solutions to make them increasingly efficient in both collection and transportation. With the addition of intelligent features, we can optimize the whole process – and in the future there will be even more possibilities to use the data”, Aaltio adds.
However, there is growing interest in them, as sorting, recycling and better waste management are also relevant issues in these markets.
Through our subsidiaries and partners, Europress operates not only in Finland, but also in Europe and Russia. Today, our network extends even to the Middle East, the Far East and Australia. Each market is in its own stage of transition to more accurate sorting and use of intelligent solutions.
“In Russia and Eastern Europe, for example, the Europress SMART system is still new. However, interest is growing, as sorting, recycling and more efficient waste management are topical issues in these markets too, says Aaltio.
Intelligent waste management solutions are becoming easier to use with the support of our specialists. At the same time, they offer more economical, safe and environmentally friendly ways of meeting the company’s obligations in sorting and recycling”. With the Europress SMART system, companies can reduce both their costs and the environmental burden on their enterprises both in Finland and in other countries.
