Smart waste management – digitization of the whole chain

In this series of articles, we present the experts behind the Europress SMART system and share their thoughts on how intelligent waste management changes the conditions of the circular economy.

In the third article of this series, we look to the future: Europress Information Technology Development Manager Tommy Häkkinen talks about the next step towards digitalization.
“Changes in waste management are just beginning and will be as significant as in other areas of logistics. All the conditions for this already exist,” says Hakkinen.
The need for change is created by regulatory requirements, stricter environmental standards and increasing costs. Another problem is that at present most of the cost of materials is lost during processing.
“There is a need for a better understanding of the shares of produced, processed and recycled raw materials. Prices of primary raw materials will grow, and demand for processed raw materials will increase,” – said Hakkinen.
